In case you feel that the first few days of school are sneaking up on you, here are some bits of info that might help:

1) Everybody: On the first four days of school (Wednesday, 9/5-Monday, 9/10), all seven periods of the rotation will meet, with the periods being slightly shortened to compensate. You’ll receive more details about this on the first day of school.

EDIT: Thursday will be an A Day, with the X Block inserted, so Period 7 will not meet.  This does not affect any music classes.

2) Symphonic Band: You will not need instruments on the first day of school. You will, however, need them on Thursday, September 6th, and all days thereafter. Thursday we will be passing out symphonic band folders and doing some ensemble technique work, and Friday we’ll be handing out pep band materials. The first football game of the season is Friday, September 14th at home vs. Cardinal Spellman, and I intend for the pep band to be there to make a lot of noise!

3) Jazz Workshop: You will not need instruments on the first two days of school. I have yet to make a decision about Friday, September 7th–it depends on how much ground we cover on the 5th and 6th–but I’ll be sure to let you know what equipment you’ll need.

If you’re anything like me, you may blinked and realized all of a sudden that it was August 12th!

This brings up a very important point, though–are you practicing to be ready for the beginning of the year?  We jump right into things, with our first football game at the end of the second week of school, so please keep that in mind when planning out the next couple of weeks before classes begin.  Make time to pick up the instrument, even if you start out with short, 20-30 minute sessions and work up endurance, flexibility and range in the days leading up to the beginning of school.

Ahh.  After some creative re-linking, the calendar tab at the top of this page should work now.  I’ve already uploaded onto it all of the dates we currently have for pep band and symphonic band performances.  Let me know if this one has any problems!

One of the newer additions to the website is the “Calendar” tab above, which features a link to Google Calendar. Could somebody please check out that link and let me know if you can access the calendar without having a Google account?
